Be Happy ~ well that sounds easy enough! And I can hear a great big choir of voices saying “yeeeeaaaah right!” hahaha
I have found that happiness is very much, like they say, a state of mind. If you did some research and took a pole, I am sure you would find certain specific qualities that all truly “happy” people hold. Things such as:
- Being Optimistic
- Physically Active
- Follow their Intuition
- Provide for their Basic Needs
- Closeness to Family & Friends
- They Smile
I will briefly go into each one of the items listed above.
Being optimistic is all in how you think. Most things, including most of the remainder of this blog, are things that will boost your happiness, however this ONE step of improving your attitude towards life will increase your happiness permanently. To be optimistic you need to realign your thoughts to those that look for the light at the end of the tunnel. Know that your past does not equal your future. See yourself as a cause, not an effect. Use positive affirmations (you know, write down those silly positive sayings about yourself and what you’re trying to accomplish and stick them everywhere you’ll see them often to remind yourself). Remember that life is short; use each moment as much as you possibly can! Balance is key here… no one wants the overly annoying bouncy too-perky optimistic gal all around the all the time, pretending that nothing bad can ever happen. haha That will simply lead to poor decision-making and may invite people to take advantage of you! You CAN be both sensible by preparing for the worst, yet optimistic by hoping always and reaching for the best.
Physical activity and/or exercise is huge. Endorphins will make you feel better, and it will make you happy.
Following your intuition or gut instinct can be a better choice, at times, than weighing down your mind by over-analyzing each and every decision you come across in your life. Some decisions in life are more important and definitely need wise thought and research behind them. I am not saying to simply jump on a whim in any direction. However, once you have done your research and have weighed the pros and cons, and are down to your last choices… if you truly and simply follow which one “feels right” you will be happier. Do not allow regret to seep in on decisions you have made! Remember, if you were brave enough to make a choice to take a chance… that is a good thing! Your life will never change without it. If you make a wrong choice, well then you know which direction NOT to take next time! Now, pick yourself up, dust off your bottom, and let’s go again!
NEEDS are much different that wants! Remember that first. When you pray for God’s provision… yes, He says that He will provide for our needs. We as humans can survive on much less that you think! My children & I have begun praying with thanks for all of God’s provisions; that we have beds, blankets, pillows, food to eat, a car to drive, a house to keep us warm, clothes to wear… those basic needs! Once you are happy that you have your NEEDS met, you will be in much better moods about even the smallest of victories. Money, wants, things do not make one happy. In fact, it can make you bored. Be happy first, in what you have. I am not saying to not push for furthering yourself. By all means, reach for the stars and be successful! You will only know happiness in that success though, once you are happy with the simple things! Know that!
Closeness to Family and/or Friends is vital to happiness. If you, like me, are not physically close to your family – write them (you know those old fashioned things called letters!?), email them, text them, call them, skype with them! And do it often… believe me, it helps a bit with the distance. A little is more than nothing… and every little bit helps. If you do not have a good relationship with your family, for whatever reason, I would urge you to reach out and make an effort. Also, creating a “family” of close friends can help a great deal! You do not need a lot of friends to build this “family”… just a few great close friends are more valuable than gold. You should be the friend you so desire in them… give more, call more, do more… they will do anything for you. 🙂

S M I L E ! ! ! ! ! It looks GREAT on you!!! Everyone looks better when they smile! 😀 Did you know that you can trick your brain from being in a poor mood by simply smiling!? It’s true! If you put on a smile, however fake it has to be, and keep it there… your brain will be tricked into a better mood! Try it!! Also, if anyone is around you this works twice as fast, because others react & treat you differently when you are smiling, which will help a great deal. 😀
