It amazes me how when life gets too noisy, simply stepping away from it all to get in touch with nature can so quickly help! Some days when I simply am not physically feeling up to par and cannot kick it… even going for a walk outside make a world of difference. In fact, one day recently, my children were home sick from school. We stayed inside laying around all day… and late in the afternoon I took them outside for a walk by the lake, and their spirits immediately lifted and they all-of-a-sudden started feeling better. Isn’t that amazing how nature, fresh air, sunshine, etc. can help SO much!?
On another note, well… for another look at the same note… LOL the same shocking thing happens to help when you are trying to get closer to God in prayer as well. It can be compared to how an amazing sunset can stop a person in their steps to take a deep breath of appreciation for it’s beauty. Walking away from the city noise, even if it’s just to your city park, can assist you in seeing things from a different perspective. I personally have a problem trying to quiet my mind. It just won’t shut up!! haha I know I know hard to imagine! Yet, all it takes even for my non-stop thought process to pause for a deep breath, is a stroll outside in a serene setting with trees, flowers, birds… nature. When you cannot doubt that there is a God, simply by looking at the flowers on the ground, or by gazing up at the majestic tall trees, it is simpler to just be. To pause all of the busy thoughts and just be… if even for a moment.
CHALLENGE: Take a half an hour out of your day – or longer if you can – and find the closest thing to secluded nature that you can find near your house or your work. Go and walk, sit, stroll, meander, gaze in awe… just soak it all in for a bit. See how much it lifts your burdens and stresses… if even for that moment. It is cleansing.
